ROUTEBURN-GREENSTONE 2012 Season
Routeburn Track
The Routeburn track is one of the
“Great Walks”. It is a 32 km,3 day tramp through Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Parks. It commences near
Glenorchy at the head of Lake Wakatipu,
and finishes at the “Divide” on the Milford road. Practically one whole day is
spent above the bushline, amongst a dramatic alpine
landscape, and the main divide is crossed at Harris saddle (1280m). In places
the track is quite rough, and there are a number of “ups and downs” to extend
you. One has to be prepared for cold conditions in the areas above the bushline. This tramp is a classic trip, and the scenery is
superb (given fine weather.) We use the spacious DoC
Huts, and are able to “book” our bunks in advance. As with all our other trips,
we supply the food, but you help to carry and cook it !
Greenstone
Track
After completing the Routeburn
Track, we continue down the Greenstone Valley for another 2 days, making it a 5
day trip. The Greenstone Valley is a beautiful area, and its a good finish to the more demanding Routeburn. In the Greenstone we will be using the up-market
commercial Lodges, (even have hot showers!), but that does increase the cost of
the trip. We use the cheaper DoC Huts on the Routeburn.
A good standard of tramping fitness is required on this extended trip
