MOUNT
ASPIRING CENTRE (Tititea Trust)
We stay at the Aspinall
Family's old Mt Aspiring Station Homestead, donated to Dunstan High School and converted
into a comfortable Lodge,(sleeps 40), with all necessary facilities.(It's about
1 hour beyond Wanaka)
While there we
are completely self-sufficient, and you can participate in whatever activity
you wish. Our Leaders attempt to organise activities that will suit all levels
of fitness. You can also just relax and have an easy time.
The Centre is situated beside the famous Matukituki
River, among a superb moutain area, close to the Mt
Aspiring National Park. We do day tramps up the East and West Branches of the Matukituki, climb up to the Rob Roy Glacier, Aspiring Hut, Glacier
Burn, Rock of Ages Bivvy and return to the
comfortable Lodge each night. As on our other trips, we all help with the
cooking etc, and the meals are just wonderful,
because on this trip we can take in lots of fresh food. (We don’t have to carry
it in ,in our packs) It is a ideal place for a wonderful holiday.
It is truly a beautiful area, with quite an aura of history, and we feel privileged and lucky that we can use this place for our groups. Access to the Centre is across the Matukituki River, usually by Tractor & Trailer . If river levels are normal our gear is carted in for us, but if the river is high, you will have to carry it over the foot bridge for about three kilometres. We ask you to put all you gear in a full size tramping pack, incase you do have to carry it. (NO Suit Cases!) Bring a small day pack to carry your lunch, clothes etc on out day excursions.
