THE WONDERFUL CATLINS, TAUTUKU OUTDOOR CENTRE 2012 Season

This summer we offer you another experience. We shall spend 4 nights at Otago Youth Adventure Trust’s own Tautuku Outdoor Education Centre. Situated in the heart of the Catlins area, Tautuku is a superb complex,. - regarded as the “Flagship” of OYAT’s 3 excellent Outdoor Education Centres in Otago.

Tucked away in the south-east corner of the South Island, the Catlins area, with its spectacular coastline, beaches, waterfalls, virgin bush ,rivers,  excellent walking tracks has appeal for everyone. Our main activity will be moderate day tramps, but you will also be able to try your hand at canoeing, confidence course, climbing wall, and the other facilities available at the complex.. Each day we will explore a different area, or participate in a different activity, and return each night to our comfortable Lodge.. Choices will be available, and knowledgable helpers there to assist. If that all sounds too strenuous, just come along and have a relaxing time.

DATES

THE CATLINS

We will leave Dunedin by Bus, at 3pm on wednesday January 25 2012, returning about 4pm on Sunday the 29th.

You have the opportunity to combine this trip with some of our other trips. (see programme).

Local people and others who wish to take their own cars to Tautuku are welcome to do this.

The Catlins, streching from Nugget Point to Waipawa Point and featuring the most significant area of native forest on the east coast of New Zealand is one of NZ’s best kept secrets.

To discover it for yourself you need time to do it justice, as those who drive through with their car windows closed will never gain the full impact of region. Those who tarry a while (and stay at our camp), will never forget what they experience.

Takahopa and Tautuku Bays are superb examples of coastal beaches, podocarp forests, acessed by walking tracks. Around the rocky bush fringed coastline, one can see fur seals, penguins, dolphins.
