Berwick
Lodge 2012 - New trip last season
The Berwick Forest Lodge is another Otago Youth
Adventure Trust camp. It is situated, in the Wenita
Forest, some 50 km south of Dunedin, about 45 minutes motoring. It is used
extensively by Schools, and other groups and has
accommodation for over 50 people.
We already visit the Tautuku
Camp in the Catlins, and the Sutton Camp (Cycle
Trail). It is a well-appointed Camp, with good facilities, and an ideal place
for various excellent day tramps and other activities. As on our other “base”
camp trips. (Aspiring, Catlins, Borland and Huxley)
we will return each afternoon/evening to the Lodge, for meals and social
activities in the spacious “common room”, kitchen, and Gymnasium.
Sleeping accommodation is in Bunk rooms (4-6 beds),
with comfortable mattresses & pillows (bring a sleeping bag). There are a
number of excellent day tramps, some challenging, and some easier, in the area,
as well as kayaking, confidence course etc. Your “Leaders” will sort these out.
There is also the opportunity to go to Dunedin, perhaps visit the Albatross
Colony, or take the world famous “Wild Life Cruise” on the Otago Harbour
(Monarch Boat), or take a ride on the renowned “Taieri
Gorge Railway”. These activities will incur extra costs.
Itinerary
We plan to stay 4 nights at the camp. Arriving
mid-afternoon on Sunday January 29th, and departing Thursday mid-morning, on
the 2nd of February. We are prepared to pick people up in Dunedin, and Dunedin
Airport on Sunday afternoon January 29th, And can return them to those 2 places
on Thursday 2nd of February.
Those who wish to take their own cars to the Lodge are
welcome to do this
